Get an Insurance Agent License
You must be a licensed insurance agent in order to provide Georgians with information about insurance and sell policies.
To get a license, you need to meet specific requirements, which vary depending on the category, also called class, of insurance you wish to sell.
You can read detailed information about licensing, prelicensing and application requirements, exams, licensing fees, and more, in the Georgia Insurance Licensing Candidate Handbook, published by Georgia Insurance and Safety Fire Commissioner John F. King.
It is best to gather all needed information, documentation and requirements when applying. If your submission is incomplete, the application process will be delayed. After applying, please watch your email for any needed information and updates.
How Do I … Get an Insurance Agent License?
Choose the Type of Insurance You Want to Sell
There are several types of insurance you can be licensed to sell in Georgia. These types range from credit, life, and casualty to property, accident and sickness, and travel. Do your research and learn about each one. Also, when exploring each type, keep in mind that one license might qualify you to sell more than one class of insurance. For example, a “Life, Accident and Sickness” license will enable you to sell both Life and Accident and Sickness insurance; whereas, a Life insurance license will only enable you to sell Life insurance.
